First of all to start my day off, this lovely bar of soap sitting in our inherited bathroom (apparently the tiles are coming back into vogue?) was brought back from my mother-in-law from a soap-making company she visited in Marseilles. The soap has no artificial anything and is infused with the oil of .... lavender! And this, of course, reminds me of my blogging buddy Toca La Bocina. I have yet to see any of the budding lavender sprouting up in my garden where I threw the seeds, but I do hope one day soon to have crisp sheets scented with dried lavender for all our guests who stay over.
Amber Page Writes reminded me that I am, first of all, a woman (before cleaner, baker, multi-baby maker). So I made a little effort this morning, in spite of the fact that it was primarily the under-five set that benefited from my efforts). The CoCo Chanel reminds me so much of the time I spent in Taiwan, because that is what I wore (despite the heat and humidity). It packs a mean punch at first, but settles into a nice woodsy scent as the day wears on. La Roche Posay is the brand of eye makeup every woman should wear if your eyes are sensitive. The mascara has no titanium dioxide, and is one of the few to boast that.
A necessary start to my day (Contrex is supposed to have magical powers to negate the ill-effects of the coffee):
especially needed to deal with the tears and other drama...

I can't help but go and check out my garden, which, in spite of the cold seems to thrive. This is the fruit salad section - the tall spindly bushes are raspberries, the low plants are gariguette strawberries (the best France has to offer), and the trees are pear and apple. The apricot tree is just over the hedge on the other side of the garden and the plum tree and melon plants are not far. Too bad there are no bananas, without which no fruit salad is complete.
And, once again inspired by the too-cool-for-school Empress, I realized that if my daughter is ever going to share my childhood love for Anne of Green Gables, Chronicles of Narnia, Little House on the Prairie, Island of the Blue Dolphin, etc. I had better get her started reading in English! It was a rather successful debut, although she might have relied heavily on the pictures to know what it said.
So I managed to get through the day, overcoming my Wednesday sluggishness with a bit of bloggishness. Thank you for the inspiration, friends!

There is nothing better than the scent of French lavender clinging to the linens. I do hope your seeds sprout successfully!
ReplyDeleteAhh! lavander, fruit salad garden, and Little House on the Prairie. Thanks for brightening my day, Miss Welcome!
ReplyDeleteOh, that phrase made me smile, "overcoming sluggishness with bloggishness."
ReplyDeleteSo so cute...
Please let us know how your plants do and describe the scent, to the letter...
You are very welcome - I'm jealous of your fruit salad in the making. The rabbits and other wildlife that make their homes in my yard have already made short work of the strawberries I was trying to grow.
ReplyDeleteI really like that bathroom tile!
ReplyDeleteAnd you know what, I don't like bananas in my fruit salad - at all. So, sounds like we can have a tasty fruit salad from your garden when I come to visit! My little guy would be so jealous of your pear tree . . . he's asking for one all the time. . . keep telling him, someday, when we have a house . . . same answer he gets for the dog and cat pleas. Poor kid.
i would like to smell you early in the day (when it packs a powerful punch) and late in the day (settled in), because that would mean we were together! miss you!
